RFC Approval Paths

Request for Change (RFC) is a formal proposal for the implementation of a change. In the Atlas environment, we define RFC broadly, encompassing simple changes that require little oversight (like additions to code tables) and those that require complicated project management (like creating a whole new tab).

To control RFCs, we have developed the Approval Path concept.

A- Mass General Brigham Development Office Managed (No approval required)

Items that typically require no approval include modifications to data elements where Mass General Brigham wishes to enforce consistent codes for all affiliates with an eye towards facilitating data analysis, data mining, and shared reporting (such as Industry Codes and Revenue Vendor Attributes) or towards simplifying support (such as Atlas Security).

In these cases, users should enter a ticket in Mojo, using the appropriate form when available. These requests will be evaluated as they are received.

See Attribute Categories, Security, Audit Tables

B- Mass General Brigham Development reviewed

Some features in Atlas, like Smart Fields, can be configured directly via the Atlas user interface. These items do not require any sort of approval per se, but they do have performance implications, and as such should go through a quality control process that may require review by the MGB Development Office Applications Team.

The Triage Team will meet weekly to review new and ongoing development, including bug reports.

See Schedules and Queues

C- Design Team Approval

Any changes that could affect multiple affiliates should be reviewed by the design team, including any new customizations.

The Design Team will meet regularly to review new and ongoing development and plan future releases. The agenda for these meetings will be published prior to these meetings, including which specific change requests will be discussed.

See Customizations and Bug Fixes.

D- Design team and data warehouse/Reporting team review and agreement

In general, no approval is required for new reports. The process for managing report changes is still being developed and will be published here when ready.

All report requests should be entered in Mojo.

E- Directed by MGB

There will occasionally be RFCs dictated by Mass General Brigham that we have little control over, such as changes in IT policy or changes in laws that affect our work. In these cases, we will be provided with the requirements, typically with plenty of lead time, and the Design Team and the Applications Team will work together to decide on a course of action.
