Appeals

All bulk mailings and solicitations sent through CRM need to have an appeal.  Appeals can be more general, like “FY21 Annual Giving” or specific like “2021 Fall Appeal”.  The method chosen depends on the complexity of segmentation and metrics the mailing requires.  Appeals are part of the Marketing and Communications area.

Adding an Appeal

Name:  As of the TR1ALL pass, we are adding the appeal identifier from RE to the name

Description:  As of TR1ALL, the name of the appeal

Business Unit:  The development business unit associated with this appeal.  This will default on all revenue.  If necessary, it can be overwritten at the revenue level – for example if a gift came in through Annual Giving but it should be counted as Major Gifts. Business Unit is required.

Category:  Used like the appeal category in RE, these values are affiliate specific

Report Code:  We will move appeal attributes here that are used to provide grouping for appeals to facilitate YOY comparisons.  These will be affiliate specific

Site:  as appropriate, PCC would enter one of their sub-sites

Start Date: as appropriate, for a general appeal it could be the start of the fiscal year

End Date: as appropriate, for a general appeal it could be the end of the fiscal year

Goal:  Add as appropriate

Development Sub Unit: will be added here, this is Appeal Attribute from RE, which will also be an attribute in CRM

Once created, there are additional tabs available to add benefits, any notes, attributes, etc.  Team set-up is TBD at this time.

CONVERSION NOTES:

  • RE appeal expenses and number solicited convert as appeal attributes in CRM
  • There are no actions linked to appeals in CRM.  RE appeal actions converted as appeal notes
  • RE appeal attributes with an appeal category of  ‘Appeal Reporting Category’, ‘Appeal Roll-up’, or ‘Appeal Group’ to converted to CRM Appeal Report Code for all affiliates except for BWH.
  • RE packages converted as appeal attributes with the package identifier in the description and the number solicited in the comment
  • Associated RE campaigns were moved to CRM appeal attributes
  • the number mailed did not convert from RE, this was added as an attribute for historical purposes.  Updated information about source codes, segments and marketing efforts will be available only for the appeals that were mapped from RE with the translation spreadsheet.  These are changed during conversion and once activated and calculated with have up to date metrics.
  • Note that RE packages bear NO resemblance to CRM packages!
  • Business unit was populated from the RE Development Unit appeal attribute
  • For PCC only – the appeal category was moved to site, and the data from RE appeal attribute “Appeal Reporting Category” was moved to appeal category
